The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of
Teaching
“The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement
of Teaching is an independent policy and research
center with a primary mission 'to do and perform
all things necessary to encourage, uphold, and
dignify the profession of the teacher and the
cause of higher education.'”
Community
Engagement Elective Classification (The Carnegie
Foundation)
“The new classification for Community Engagement
is an elective classification, meaning it is based
on voluntary participation by institutions. Community
Engagement describes the collaboration between
institutions of higher education and their larger
communities (local, regional/state, national,
global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of
knowledge and resources in a context of partnership
and reciprocity.”
Carnegie
Community Engagement Classification 2006 Applications
(Campus Compact)
“In 2005, The Carnegie Foundation created
the Community Engagement Classification as a means
to recognize and classify higher education institutions
with a strong commitment to their communities.
All but eight of the 76 institutions that qualified
for this classification are Campus Compact members,
many of them have agreed to share their application
documents to provide examples of their partnerships
with the community and to assist other institutions
in applying for the classification in 2008.”
Elective
Classification: Community Engagement 2008 Documentation
Framework (pdf)
“The documentation framework provides
a guide for institutions to develop and document
their community engagement efforts.”
